I am thankful for the sun rising each day, even more so these days, after a summer of smoke filled skies and a fall of what seems like the never-ending overcast sky.
I am thankful for my little girls, though not so little anymore. For me, being their mom is a chance to shepherd the 13-year-old inside me. Being the soft ground for them to fall on when the challenges of life inevitably throw them off.
I am thankful for my husband and the imperfect relationship that we have cobbled together. When we are brave enough to let our guard down and listen for each other’s needs.
I am thankful for my home that we have created. Knowing that as we embark on a new path, the stuff we have accumulated is not what makes our home so beautiful. It’s the moments over the dinner table or when the girls pile onto our bed. The safe space between us where we can be who we are without judgment.
I am thankful for my parents who, I can in a very corny way admit, I never ‘got’ them until we were blessed with our own kids. The phrase saying how our children are literally our hearts who have been thrown into the chaotic world is so damn true! We love to see them fly, but always yearn to keep them safe. I am grateful for my imperfect childhood and how my parents as flawed as they are, provided me the sense that I always have and will still have a soft place to land when life throws another blow my way.
I am thankful for every honest conversation I have ever had with anyone. Being seen and heard is a powerful gift.
I am thankful for each new day. Knowing that when I close my eyes at night, I get to wake up the next day and hug those I love, do the work that inspires me, and sit in the warmth of the sun.
Thank you for all the little things you do each day that make the world a little better, kinder, and joyful.
I hope this list inspires you to take a moment and express gratitude for what you have as well as what you have the power to create in your life.
